A truly unique boutique hotel set in UNESCO-listed Matera, in the heart of Southern Italy. After a renovation which lasted over 10 years, the original Sassi have been completely refurbished while preserving their natural appearance and leaving the eroded golden tufa walls to speak for themselves.

The result is a unique cultural project born to bring hospitality experience outside the schematics, not classifiable as "stars" and far from any traditional concept of luxury. The 18 rooms are pervaded by a monastic simplicity: no televisions, minibars, rugs or curtains and mainly no plastic. Rustic wooden tables, original benches, candles and lanterns create a simple, purist atmosphere that cannot be found elsewhere and that represent the luxury of emotions.

On arrival, the friendly professional team will give you a brief but fascinating explanation of the history of these ancient and sacred caves, that you can further explore following the network of walks, hikes and secret paths that depart from this one-of-a-kind hotel.

One of Italy’s UNESCO Heritage site, Matera has gone from a place of extreme poverty to a European Capital of Culture over just a few decades and now offers galleries, restaurants, cafes, clubs, and museums.
