San Gimignano, whose towers rise from the ridge above the Elsa valley, is a short drive away and repays an afternoon's wandering through its lanes and wine shops; Volterra, quieter and perched dramatically above the surrounding plain, offers Etruscan museums and medieval streets with rather fewer visitors. The vineyards of the Chianti Classico zone are within comfortable reach for day trips, and the medieval streets of Certaldo — birthplace of Boccaccio — are also close by.
The interior has been renovated to preserve the character of the original farmhouse whilst adding contemporary comfort throughout.
