Fattoria Otranto is a working farm and country retreat for 16 guests in Frassanito, on the Salento coast north of Otranto. The property comprises a main building accommodating 12 and an annexe for 4, set within fields of olive trees, vineyards, and vegetable gardens where horses, donkeys, cows, goats, and hens roam freely—a true immersion in rural Puglian life that will delight animal lovers. Brindisi Airport is approximately 1 hour by car, whilst Bari is around 2 hours away.
The fattoria occupies a privileged position between the Alimini lakes and the dramatic sea stacks of Sant'Andrea, with beach clubs within walking distance and complimentary bicycles available for exploring the coastal trails that wind through maritime pine forests. Otranto, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2010, lies 15 minutes by car and rewards visitors with its Norman cathedral—home to a remarkable 12th-century floor mosaic—and the narrow stone streets of the old town that tumble down towards the castle and the sea. Further afield, the baroque splendour of Lecce is 40 minutes away, and day trips might take in the Grotta della Poesia at Roca, the wild beauty of the Baia dei Turchi, or the whitewashed houses of Santa Maria di Leuca at the tip of the peninsula where the Adriatic meets the Ionian.
The interiors follow a country-chic aesthetic: whitewashed walls, original stonework, and an eclectic collection of antique furniture sourced from markets across Europe, where every piece has been carefully restored to fit the setting. The ground floor of the main building contains 2 bedrooms, whilst the first floor houses 4 more, including 2 family rooms; the annexe, which is attached to the owners' residence, offers a further 2 bedrooms with independent access. A resident housekeeper can prepare all meals and the communal dining table becomes the heart of the house each evening, where dishes showcase produce from the farm's own gardens along with the freshest fish from the Adriatic. Various spaces across the property can be arranged for activities including breathwork sessions among the beehives, pizza nights using the wood-fired oven, and private celebrations in the wine cellar.
Two swimming pools serve the property: a heated indoor pool visible through glass from the kitchen and dining area, with views of the fireplace adding atmosphere on cooler evenings, and a larger unheated outdoor pool surrounded by the garden. A spa area with Turkish bath and treatment room is accessible from the indoor pool. The gardens are extensive and well maintained, with shaded corners, teak sun loungers, and direct access to the surrounding farmland. Horseback riding, cooking classes, wicker weaving, terracotta shaping, and traditional pizzica dancing are among the experiences that can be arranged, and a 10% discount on umbrellas and sun loungers has been negotiated at nearby Lido Tropea.
