The Valle d'Itria — the inland plateau of Puglia where trulli cone roofs punctuate the landscape between olive groves and limestone walls — gives this part of the region its particular character, and the estate sits squarely within it. Ostuni itself, rising white above the plain, rewards an evening's wandering through its lanes and hilltop cathedral; Alberobello, where the trulli are most densely concentrated, is lessn than 40 minutes away, as is Fasano. Cisternino and Ceglie Messapica, both known for their butchers and outdoor grills, are close by for informal dinners. The Adriatic coastline, with its rocky coves and long sandy beaches, is within a short drive, and Polignano a Mare and Monopoli are reachable in under an hour for day trips along the coast.
The 3 buildings — the Trulli, the Lamia, and the Saraceno — are conceived as parts of a single estate, connected by the communal outdoor spaces rather than enclosed within a single structure. The Trulli building is built around an early 19th-century vaulted stone structure that now houses the main kitchen, with 4 trulli grouped around it containing 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a large living room with a fireplace and wooden-beamed ceiling overlooking the pool. The Lamia, a former farm building, centres on a barrel-vaulted entrance hall leading into 4 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and a traditional star-vaulted ceiling characteristic of Puglian rural architecture, and a sitting area. The 16th-century Saraceno is the most self-contained of the 3: a large trullo of exceptional proportions with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, a veranda, and a terrace on the dome roof from which to look out over the olive groves undisturbed. Throughout the complex, rooms are furnished in soft, neutral tones with high-quality materials that sit easily alongside the ancient stone.
The large pool forms the centrepiece of the outdoor area, with the buildings arranged around it and a pergola providing shade for alfresco dining. A barbecue and wood-fired pizza oven are available for outdoor cooking, and the grounds include a table tennis table, table football, and a small gym. A cabin by the pool provides additional space. The surrounding land — olive groves, flowering meadows, and dry stone walls — offers room to walk freely within the property.
